Putting a loved one into care can be a stressful and emotionally charged time. Engaging our services mean that clients and their families do not have to worry about the challenges of dealing with Centrelink/Department of Human Services or be fully educated in how these assessments are completed.
The Rethink team provides peace of mind to clients by liaising with Centrelink/Department of Human Services and can assist with determining eligibility for certain entitlements, potential Income Tested or Means Tested fee amounts, completing necessary forms, lodgement with Centrelink and follow up on your behalf until your application has been granted or finalised.
There are multiple strategies that can be considered to potentially maximise your Age Pension entitlement and minimise your Aged Care fees.
Rethink can become a client’s nominee and liaise with Centrelink on their behalf for, but not limited to the following:
Completing Age Pension application and assistance in compiling supporting documentation.
Updating income & assets to ensure you are receiving the correct entitlement.
Querying any assessments that result an unexpected change to entitlement.
Ensuring that your entitlement is in line with our calculations and if not, determine why.
Department of Human Services (DoHS)
When you are in receipt of a Home Care Package, or you enter Residential Aged Care the Department of Human Services assesses your income and assets to determine the fees you will be required to pay. By engaging Rethink, we can:
Assist you in completing the Aged Care Fees Income Assessment form (SA456) for Home Care Packages
Assist you in completing the Permanent Residential Aged Care – Request for a Combined Assets and Income Assessment form (SA457) for clients entering care
Provide advice around the implications of transferring facilities before doing so and the importance of your original date of permanent entry to care
Continue to liaise with DoHS to ensure your assessment is completed in line with our calculations & advice
Liaise with your Aged Care facility to provide updates on the progress of your assessment with DoHS & ensure you are being charged the correct fees.
Note: we cannot become someone’s ‘aged care nominee’ only a PoA can be a nominee here. We can still put the PoA in place as nominee and arrange for them to forward all correspondence to us.

We hold a number of small group information sessions throughout the year to support carers facing the increasing Aged Care needs of a family member or loved one. These loved ones are commonly moving into the phase of life where they need strategic advice before they start looking to sell assets, or deciding on a facility or home care option.
Even if you have already taken steps towards one of these options, there is great value in attending one of our sessions to better understand how your plans will fully impact your family members or loved ones.
Alternatively, if you feel the scheduled information sessions are too far away and need more clarity sooner, click ‘I need assistance now’ and connect with one of our Aged Care team.
